So I finally googled 'merkin' more out of curiosity over _why_ such a thing exists. And what I learned was that apparently they were commonly worn by prostitutes as a protective measure against lice. Which...makes sense! Especially back in the day where I'm guessing getting lice was a 'welp, now this is a thing' or, at best 'time to try this thing and hope it doesn't burn too bad' However, while shaving down there is an effective preventative measure against lice (I am not a doctor, do not rely on this information I know nothing), having pubic hair is actually beneficial (again, not a doctor) for protecting against _other_ STIs (as well as just reducing friction), and I bet it wasn't in style to be hairless back then either. So having a false bit of hair down there is actually a pretty smart idea. huh! I guess that's one of those items that seems really weird and out there but actually had a pretty niffty purpose when it was invented. For those that are curious, they seem to mostly be used as gag gifts and for movies involving full-frontal nudity these days.

Tyler: if you ever sleep with your contact lenses in, dont! That happened to me, i was suddenly so sensitive to light and couldn't drive, could not handle any sort of light! I finally went to eye doctor and turned out there was a small shard of a contact lens on my eye. All very scary but I attribute it to having had a habit of not taking out my lenses and sleeping with them in. Or possibly because you're wearing them so many hours and your eyes are dry??
